Tiers

The right evidence for every age.

Magnolia FieldSense comes in three tiers by grade: Foundation, Development and Performance. Each one adds kit and evidence only where the evidence holds up for that age, so a nine-year-old and a varsity athlete are both measured the right way.

Organization access, sources, and permissions are configured during onboarding.

The principle

Hardware is not the product. Better coaching is.

A tier never adds a measure just because a device can produce one. It adds a measure when the evidence supports showing it to that age group, and Magnolia FieldSense with IRIS (Integrated Reasoning & Intelligence Steward) does the analysis a professional staff would.

Grade 5 and below

Foundation

Camera-first, with no worn electronics. Fun, station-based practice, recorded the way young players learn.

Players wear
A Visual-ID Kit pinnie. Nothing else.
Identity
Station cameras read each pinnie; the coach confirms the squad.
Stations
Tagged station markers and a tap-in for each drill.
Coach sees
Attendance, participation, time on task, practice structure, clips, observations and goals.
Family sees
The coach's released notes, goals and clips, in a signed recap.
Setup
One coach, 10 to 15 minutes.
Grades 6–8

Development

One club-owned unit per player adds how far and how fast, with the pinnie as a second check on who is who.

Players wear
A pinnie and a vest-worn unit with satellite positioning and a motion sensor, assigned for the session.
Identity
The unit's assignment, cross-checked by the pinnie on camera, so a swapped unit is caught.
Stations
Tap-in plus a position geofence, so entering and leaving a station is recorded.
Coach sees
All of Foundation, plus distance, top speed, field position and station visits.
Player sees
Their own distance and top speed as plain numbers, against their own history.
Setup
A coach and a helper, 15 to 25 minutes.
Grades 9–12

Performance

Instrumented drill stations, synchronised cameras and testing, for programs that develop athletes season over season.

Players wear
The Development unit, plus a chest strap for heart rate where the family consents.
Identity
Unit and position tracking, the pinnie and synchronised video together.
Stations
Dual-beam timing gates, radar for shot speed and a high-speed camera where a drill needs one.
Coach sees
All of Development, plus sprint and shot-speed testing and season-long trends with their measurement error stated.
Player sees
Their own test results, compared only with their own history.
Setup
Run by staff.

Every tier

What no tier will ever show.

Some numbers do not belong in youth sport.

These stay out of Magnolia FieldSense at every tier, whatever the hardware could produce.

  • Injury-risk, readiness or fatigue scores
  • Rankings or comparisons between players
  • Live heart rate, at any tier
  • Diagnoses or mental-state guesses
  • Selection or recruiting recommendations
  • Joint angles shown to a minor

Grow into it

Start where your players are.

A program can run Foundation for its youngest teams and Development or Performance for older ones, in one workspace. As players move up, their goals, notes and released clips move with them.
